Council Harmonises Presumptive Tax Guidelines with Revenue Service to Shield Small Traders
A new memorandum between SMEC and BIRS provides transparent, predictable tax brackets for micro-retailers while enforcing strict penalties against unauthorized collection agents.

The persistent challenge of multiple taxation has received decisive attention following an agreement between the Bauchi State SME Council and the Bauchi State Internal Revenue Service.

Under the new protocol, informal traders formalising their businesses through the SMEC portal will receive a standardised digital tax clearance certificate and benefit from structured presumptive rates, eliminating harassment by unauthorized roadside revenue collectors.
